Verse 1:
I love the image of a mother holding her baby close to her chest, secure in her arms so that nothing can harm the baby at all. As the mother protects her child, I want God to protect me from all the dangers of this world. Throughout my travels in life, it seems like the voyage is becoming increasingly difficult for me to muscle through it alone, and I need God's love to help me through.
Verse 2:
I am picturing a grandmother spending hours and hours on knitting a beautiful blanket for her grandchild. Every stitch has just as much care as the one before, and the resulting blanket is simply beautiful. I need the warmth that the blanket provides to come from God, because my chasing after lusts and passions are leaving me cold and I have run out of every artificial comfort in which I once took shelter. Fortunately, God's comfort will never leave me.
Verse 3:
I'm picturing the fiercest of rainstorms, and a family locking themselves inside their house for protection. It could be hailing, windy, and cold outside, but the house is protecting them from everything. Like a roof prevents the rain from getting inside the house, I want God to prevent the trials of this world from getting the best of me. I wouldn't be able to survive out in the storm, so I need God to claim me as His and bring me under His roof.
Verse 4:
Here, I'm picturing God at His spinning wheel turning what we once thought was only cotton into the very thread that can be used to cover and protect. Cotton on it's own isn't all that helpful, but what God does with the cotton is. My control over myself is getting weaker as the days go by, and I am running out of places to go in order to satisfy myself for just a bit longer, so I need God's love to win me - and praise God He has one me once and for all through the sacrifice of His only Son on the cross.

There's never a place that we can go where we are unreachable by God's grace. There is never a fire too hot or a winter too cold that God's love won't be able to protect us. We are His forever if we ask Him to be ours.
Chorus:
God's word is truth, and He tells us that He loves us - He really means it. When I fall away chasing hills and winters and people and places, God is still there waiting for me to come back. That's unfailing love. He loves me as I am with all that He is, and in response to this amazing love I run back into His arms, humbly admitting my need for his covering.
Overall:
This is another song that God threw at me as a way of instructing my soul. Though I've sensed God's persistent love in strengthening me against temptations that I have been especially vulnerable to, I fall short time and time again. What God has showed me through my walk with Him is that He protects me by covering my heart and causing my desires to be shielded away from that which is not His will. Like a father would cover the eyes of his son if something that he shouldn't see comes on the television, God covers our hearts. That is the cry of this song - that God would shield me from danger and keep me strong in fighting the good fight for Him.
James 5:20
"Remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins."
1 Peter 4:8
"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."
Psalm 89:2
"Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens."
