Verse 1:
How are we expected to even come close to knowing the infinite Master of the Universe? We can't see Him, hear Him, follow Him, or understand Him in terms of the human understanding of those words. We're getting nowhere in our pursuit, because we don't know where to look.
Verse 2:
We can't read clear signs that point to God, or even use one sense to make up for another's lack. We're still going nowhere in our pursuit, but we know that there is something that we're missing. Perhaps we're just looking in the wrong places and in the wrong ways.
Verse 3:
I can't physically feel the hand of God, but I hold it anyway because it's impossible to pretend any longer that it isn't real. It doesn't have to be physical to be real. My soul begins to be cleaned, and this cleansing allows me to begin my pursuit using the right method. We can't find God with out eyes, hands, or ears - we can only find Him with our soul. I'm on my way to knowing God.
Pre-Chorus:
We can't stop seeking now - we're so close to realizing what was once unfathomable.
Chorus:
Because of the communication of our spirit with God's, I now know and see clearly who God is. Christ has made Him known to me, and that is all anyone will ever need - fellowship with our Maker.
Overall:
I was going through the book of Colossians again, this time a little slower, and one of Paul's emphases was on the mystery of God made known to us through Christ. We would not know God if it were not for Christ to bridge that gap. Sometimes we do things in our walks with the Creator just because that's what we're told to do, but that doesn't necessarily help us truly know Him. Only when our pursuit is real to us will we truly begin to understand God for who He is. Again, we can't find God with out eyes, hands, or ears - we can only find Him with our soul.
Colossians 1:25-26
"I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness - the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints."
Ephesians 1:9
"And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ."
1 Corinthians 2:9
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"
2 Corinthians 3:16
"But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."
1 Corinthians 13:12
"Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
