Verse 1:
Before Christ saved me, I had done a lot of things wrong. I was not a good friend, not a good man, and not a good person. I allowed my sins to corrode my soul and I didn't even know it.
Verse 2:
Every time I stop to think about how amazing it was for Christ to save my individual life, I am taken away in knowing that He has done this very same thing to so many others all around the world! When God rescued me, my life began - I was now a found man.
Verse 3 (2 Corinthians 5:17):
This was the Bible verse that was the main theme of the week for the FCA camp I went to on July 10, 2000 when Christ claimed me as His own. It is written on the back of my Bible, and not only was it the soul inspiration for this song that God threw at me, it is also the inspiration of my new joys in Christ forevermore.
Bridge:
All along, God has been trying to get me. All along, Christ has been praying for me. All along, I pushed both of them away - until that day when I began to stand firm with Christ Himself. Now God has me, and Christ continues to pray for me, and I let them.
Chorus:
God knows (quite literally) what I would have turned out to be; that's the exact reason that He saved me - He saved me from the me that I would have grown to be. There most certainly is an absolute joy that is found in my new life, my recreated self, and I will do my best to continue to accept God's blessings and never look back - because I am recreated.
Overall:
The two days leading to this song, I was facing a lot of difficulties and struggles about my life's past "tragedies", as well as those of a dear sister in Christ. Even though I did indeed do all the things I have done, in the very same way others have made mistakes in the past, Jesus came into my life and made me new. He didn't just forgive me for what I have done, but He really did recreate me - Jesus made me a completely new person, with a completely new life. I still struggle with the temptations that I had given into in the past, but because this new life is grounded in Christ, I have the strength that will help me out.
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come!"
